The Playground
The original playground was tired and deteriorating fast which meant it was at risk of contravening health and safety standards. After months of effort, in 2006 the Friends worked together with the Waterloo Community Development Group and Lambeth Council to install a state of the art playground. The playground reflects the theme of trade, and the vibrant colours are to reflect exotic climes. The magnificent pirate ship was chosen to reflect the adventures on the seas and the equipment itself is laid out within three zones to supports the varied needs of very young children up to those aged 12.
"Tree of Life"
Community Mosaic and Seat
Involving children with our projects can be challenging as a lot of the work involves restoration, but when the northern shelter was refurbished, we saw an opportunity to work with schools which would encourage children to get involved with their park.Working with Johanna Primary, Evelina Children’s Hospital and the Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre, the Friends commissioned once again the skills of mosaic artist and teacher David Tootill from South Bank Mosaics. David worked with the children to create artwork for the shelter by using the theme of the four seasons and created mosaic pictures to reflect the Park at different times of the year. These were then mounted inside the shelter.
