WCDG and Lambeth Council lobbied hard against the coming of the Channel tunnel to Waterloo - unsuccesfully! The building of Eurostar resulted in the loss of many small local shops, but also brought benefits

Any resident who has a potential commercial or management interest in a planning proposal that comes up for discussion shall declare their interest at any meeting where the proposal is under consideration and may attend only the presentation of the proposal but not any further debate or discussion on that item.

Meetings

General meetings, for residents and ward councillors only, are held every 6 weeks. Non-residents may attend by invitation. The elected Management Committee meets separately once a month.

Membership

Membership of WCDG is open to any individual

aged 18 or over and
a permanent resident of the Waterloo Area*
supports the Objects and Policies of the organisation.
Waterloo is the area bounded by the River Thames, Lambeth Rd and the Borough boundary (all members must therefore be resident of Lambeth).

Your membership is important! It helps demonstrate to our core funders (e.g. Lambeth Council) that you support WCDG’s aims and objectives. Members are entitled to vote at meetings to elect the Management Committee and adopt new policies.

[Please note:
1. In the event of the company being wound up members may be required to contribute an amount of no more than £1. This applies for up to one year after membership may have ceased.
2. The Management Committee can suspend membership by giving written notice for such reasons as: ceasing to live in the area, or not attending a meeting for over 12 months.]

Voting

Only Members may vote at General Meetings (see “Membership” above).

Elections

A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 13 Management Committee Members are elected at the AGM: Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and 1-10 other members of the Management Committee. Only Members are eligible to be nominated for election to the Management Committee.

How the group is run

Policy decisions on planning matters are made at General Meetings, by the Members. The Management Committee’s role is to oversee the implementation of policy decisions (made at General Meetings), to employ the workers, and to oversee the administration of the group. The workers are employed to implement policy decisions, to give information and advice to all local residents and community groups, and to service WCDG.
